How to make a Potato, Carrot and Petit Pois Curry (Vegan friendly) Use vegan margarine here!

I first saw a version of this recipe in a cookbook. I changed the peas to petit pois which have a much nicer flavour, added curry powder and a few more spices and ended up with this. This curry tastes even better the day after! The carrots, potato, peas and onion  marry together wonderfully with the spices making a really good tasting curry. Not too hot, but spicy enough. I like this with garlic and coriander naan bread and a side salad. It is also good with chapattis. It is so healthy too with all fresh ingredients and spices - no additives! You could also have it with the onion bhajis featured further on this channel for a true curry night...

How to make a Cheesy Mash - get your kids to eat onions without knowing!

Cheesy mash - this is real comfort food. Serve it with a big helping of baked beans for a night in by the fire! It's got to be made with mature cheddar cheese too, and onions chopped up really fine. It is also a great way to get the children to eat onions without knowing! You can also do this as a tray bake for a party with a large pan of baked beans. My daughter was also an onion hater, and once when she was about five years old, we went into Greggs bakery and I said to her tell the lady what you want. Lia said, " Can I have a cheese and onion pasty without the onion please?" And the lady behind the counter looked at me, winked and smiled, and simply said, "Certainly darling" Try not to smile at that....

Butter Pie

I made this recipe because I have always liked home cooked Butter pie. For me it has to be served with sliced brown onions that have been steeped in a dish of malt vinegar, with a little salt and pepper added, and left overnight in the fridge. Then grab a good helping of  pickled red cabbage, and beetroot too, sliced or pickled. ..
The first version I made didn't have enough onion in it for me to balance out the flavours, So I tried it again with more onions and this time got it just right!
I usually get ready prepared shortcrust pastry because it is quicker, but you can make your own.
One of our viewers, a lady called  Eunice Swan informs us that, "These were Catholic pies when I was young. You had them on a Friday cos it was a no meat day. Loved them then and love them now. Delicious!"  I have to agree with her because they are very warming and filling...and very tasty too!
